Kirk Cameron’s “Saving Christmas” Film

It is with unhappiness and much sadness that I write this article as it relates to two men I came to respect and love in the ministry and had the privilege of meeting, labouring with and being instructed in the ways of open-air preaching and sharing the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. By the providence of our Great God and Saviour I was able to leave the shores of Africa and visit the United States of America in June 2008 and briefly attend the Ambassadors’ Academy 3, a ministry of Living Waters, under the leadership of the two brothers in the faith, namely Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron of The Way of the Master ministry.

Saving Xmas

Just recently I viewed Kirk Cameron’s Facebook page where he had been promoting his “Saving Christmas” film as depicted here-above. I had been made aware of this film through an article that appeared at Christian News Network where it is surprisingly quoted:

Was Santa Claus a Christian? A ‘defender of the faith’? Is this reason to sit on the lap of the bearded man at the mall who “knows if you’ve been naughty or nice”? That is what Kirk Cameron is claiming as proof why Christians should celebrate Christmas in a new documentary that opens this Friday [November 14, 2014] in theatres across the country—an assertion that is raising concerns over Cameron’s confusion of Roman Catholicism with Christianity.

Cameron, best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the 80’s TV sitcom “Growing Pains” and films such as “Fireproof” and “Left Behind,” has been promoting his new film “Saving Christmas,” in which the actor seeks to “keep Christ in Christmas,” stating that some holiday traditions aren’t so bad or pagan after all.

Saint Nicholas, as painted on the Kizhi monastery in Russia. After recently asserting that Christians should celebrate Halloween, in a video clip released last week entitled “Do You Love Santa Claus,” Cameron stated that “maybe someone like Santa Claus is actually on our team.” He then released a second video providing the history of the figure of Santa Claus, who was actually the Roman Catholic Bishop Nicholas of Myra, Turkey under Pope Sylvester I.

“He was a devout Christian,” Cameron states, but not noting Nicholas’ Roman Catholic faith. Read more Here (Full Report)

Another Christian News Network article that should be read appears at this link: ‘Maybe the Grinch Had a Point’: Kirk Cameron’s ‘Saving Christmas’ Won’t Be Saved From Critics.

Whilst I have personally not viewed the film, and will not be viewing the same in its entirety, I have watched the trailer and read some reviews on it, and have also seen the comments on Kirk Cameron’s Facebook page – for the film vs. against the film; pro-Christmas vs. anti-Christmas; man’s pagan traditions vs. Biblical Historical Truth. It all makes for interesting reading, but there can be only one Truth. Just as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said:

31  . . . If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. ~ John 8:31,32 & 36

Birth of Christ This is the saddest part of this blog posting. I had placed a comment on Kirk’s Facebook wall, including the birth chart to the left (click on it to enlarge in another tab), and my comment was deleted. You read right – D E L E T E D. It appears that when one confronts error with the literal Biblical Historical Truth you are summarily deleted and not allowed to “play in the play-group.” I am saddened and really disappointed by how professing Christians can censure Christians if they do not agree with their world view! It goes much deeper than that as it is a matter of Truth vs. error and those in error do not want to listen! Well argue with the Word of God then. When one reads the Holy Scriptures, are you able to find “Christmas Day” mentioned in YHVH’s Holy Feast Days in Leviticus 23? Or maybe it was instituted in the New Testament and I have just missed the Chapter and Verse! No, you can’t find it, because it doesn’t exist.

Surprisingly an initial comment with the chart also appears to have mysteriously disappeared on Ray Comfort’s Facebook wall, and this before I reposted three more comments randomly! It is also very surprisingly that Kirk Cameron who is attempting to evangelise the masses has also changed his comment settings and you have to “possibly like” his page before you can comment thereon; or is the comment feature only not available to me? Well, getting back to the initial comment on Kirk’s page which went something along these lines, not verbatim as the original one was deleted:

Christian, please read your Holy Bible and you will find out that Yeshua, our Lord Jesus Christ, was born on 15 Tishri (September/October) at the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) and He was born in a Sukkot (Booth) and not a stable/cave. If you know what to look for start reading: Luke 1 and 2; 1 Chronicles 24:10; Leviticus 23:33-44; Deuteronomy 16:16; and many other Scriptures.

To help with the Scriptures quoted here-above please view the afore-stated Birth of Christ Chart together with the following powerpoint presentation: The Nativity of Yeshua HaMeshiach.

Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron receive literally thousands upon thousands of “hits/likes/shares/comments” on their Facebook accounts and it is mostly by idolising Christian folk. If a message is being proclaimed please make sure it is without error. In the past I too fell into the trap of “idolising” men such as Comfort and MacArthur, and I had to REPENT before God for being so caught up in men’s ministries in idolatry instead of listening to the leading Holy Spirit and walking with God. Don’t say it will never happen to you. For many of you it has already happened and you can’t see the woods for the trees!

The only conclusion I can arrive at is that the literal Biblical Historical Truth that I presented showed up the errors in Kirk Cameron’s “Saving Christmas.” My plea to ALL reading this is: Stop trying to put the Lord Jesus Christ into something He was never in to start off with! Do you think the “Christmas” practices that are undertaken every year were at His birth? Was there a Xmas tree and all the tinsel and trappings in the sukkot Yeshua, our Lord Jesus Christ was born in? Or do you think there is a Xmas tree in heaven before the throne of God Almighty every year to celebrate His Son’s birth? Obviously the first century believers never celebrated this way so why should you/we do so now? YES – certainly preach the Gospel at every opportunity including on December 25, but don’t be pagan like the rest of the heathen world. You can do so separated from the worldly system (see James 4:4). You are to be in the world, but not of the world, as it is written:

15  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
~ John 17:15-17

We are commanded to have unity in the Christian faith. Unfortunately we don’t see unity, but rather divisions. As it is written:

9  God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10  Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11  For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12  Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13  Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? ~ 1 Corinthians 1:9-13

3  Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. ~ Ephesians 4:3-6

14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: ~ Ephesians 4:14,15

Christ Jesus made it abundantly clear how we are to remember Him. It is recorded what we are to do in remembrance of Him until He returns for His spotless, unified Bride:

23  For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. ~ 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; read with Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19,20. [my emphasis]

Maybe Chris Williams, movie reviewer for the Advisor and Source in Michigan has it right. At the second Christian News Network report above, quote: “Williams said that in the end, “Kirk Cameron hasn’t made a movie for Christians. He’s made a movie for Kirk Cameron.””  I would have thought Kirk would contend for the faith and would have told the literal Biblical Historical Truth and stood as a light in this dark wicked world, and “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We read further in Romans 13:12  “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11). The “Saving Christmas” film is not reproving the unfruitful works of darkness, but encouraging them. If this is so, then brother Kirk Cameron in sincere love I call you to repentance.

P.S. This blog posting will be placed on my Facebook wall and Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron will be tagged accordingly.

Halloween is Satanic

In late October and early November, many Pagans and Wiccans around the globe celebrate Samhain, believed to be an ancient Celtic festival in celebration of autumn harvest and the onset of winter (in the northern hemisphere). Samhain is celebrated from October 29 to November 1. It is also believed to be where Halloween came from that takes place on October 31.

A Christian is to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, as we read:

Ephesians 5:11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Ephesians 5:12  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
Ephesians 5:13  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Part 1

Part 2

It is also really sad seeing what actor-evangelist Kirk Cameron is saying about how Christians are to celebrate Halloween and Christmas, two pagan man-made holidays that have no Biblical precedent, when we are clearly warned to have no fellowship with darkness. Here is the article (click the logo hereunder) that is causing concern as to Kirk Cameron’s stance on these holidays as the report appears at

The Washington Post

We do hope that Kirk Cameron will repent of these false teachings as well as the “Left Behind” series that he was also apart of, if he has not recanted already to their unbiblical teachings.

Death of Senzo Meyiwa

Senzo Robert Meyiwa (24 September 1987 – 26 October 2014), aged 27 years was gunned down in what appears to be a botched robbery at the home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, South Africa. He was a professional footballer with the Premier Soccer League Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and was the Bafana Bafana South African goalkeeper and recent captain, representing the national team on six occasions between 2013-2014 and keeping clean sheets in his last four CAF AFCON international appearances.

Senzo Meyiwa 01 Writer came to hear of Senzo’s death this morning whilst at the petrol garage and speaking to the attendant named Sphelele – who said his name means “The Last One.” I had queried Sphelele whether he was born-again and he said that there were no others that were born after him, that is why he is “The Last One.” In his “innocence” of not quite understanding where the conversation was headed, I asked him what would happen to him if he had to die? As the conversation unfolded, it was then that Sphelele informed me that Senzo Meyiwa was tragically killed last night (on Sunday evening October 26, 2014). On Saturday the 25th instant Senzo had just played for Orlando Pirates in a 4-1 win over Ajax Cape Town in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Cup. This opened up the conversation even further with the Day of Judgment and the conversation leading to: What if Sphelele found himself in Senzo’s position? Well he had work to attend to, so I left him with a booklet titled: “Your Life ~ God’s Solution to Your Religion” and a “WARNING ~ The Back of This Card May Offend You.”

During the course of this morning and into the early evening I attempted at various times to glean as much information as possible from various news sites and social media without speculating as to what took place and the parties concerned. What was evident upfront that caught my attention and was a concern was that the relationship that existed between Senzo Meyiwa and Kelly Khumalo has been termed as “lovers”, “girlfriend” and “companions.” The first thing that came to mind was that these two parties were involved in a fornicating relationship. I did pray and ask Almighty God to protect my heart as I thought upon this situation. As the reports were scanned further, it has now become quite evident that they were not only in a fornication relationship where they have a child out of wedlock, but it has surfaced that he is a married man that in April 2014 it was reported that he had left his wife Mandisa Meyiwa (nee Mhkize) for Kelly Khumalo.

What is sad and shows the ignorance of the South African andSenzo Meyiwa 02 international public at large, even including political ministers, is that their heartfelt messages are holding the deceased Senzo as an icon, an idol, someone to be hero worshipped and that he could do no wrong. However there are a small minority of comments made in the social media circulating in cyberspace where the spiritual application of the souls in question need to be addressed. Whilst many have commented “Senzo RIP” or “Our prayers for you, RIP” or something along those lines of thought, the question is: Is Senzo’s soul resting in peace?

The Holy Word of the One and Only True and Living GOD ~ YHVH says the following:

Exodus 20:14  Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Matthew 5:27  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Matthew 5:28  But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:29  And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:30  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Galatians 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Galatians 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

This blog post is not just about Senzo Meyiwa and where he will spend all of eternity, for the Holy Scripture warns:

Hebrews 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

This blog is about Kelly Khumalo, his estranged wife Mandisa Meyiwa, his children, the three murderers, politicians, police officers, professional footballers and athletes, YOU – in short every person living and dead. We all have an appointment with the Judge of the Universe, the Lord Jesus Christ the Righteous. All will have their day in court. There are no exceptions!

Look at the stern warning given in Holy Scripture, the very Word of God that this evil, wicked and reprobate world does not want to adhere to; it reads for it is written:

Proverb 5:1  My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
Proverb 5:2  That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
Proverb 5:3  For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
Proverb 5:4  But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
Proverb 5:5  Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
Proverb 5:6  Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
Proverb 5:7  Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
Proverb 5:8  Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
Proverb 5:9  Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
Proverb 5:10  Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
Proverb 5:11  And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
Proverb 5:12  And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
Proverb 5:13  And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
Proverb 5:14  I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
Proverb 5:15  Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Proverb 5:16  Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Proverb 5:17  Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
Proverb 5:18  Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Proverb 5:19  Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
Proverb 5:20  And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Proverb 5:21  For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
Proverb 5:22  His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
Proverb 5:23  He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

Adultery is not the only concern, neither fornication, be it heterosexual or homosexual sex. You might judge this wicked love-triangle, but consider your own sin. Have you committed adultery? Looked with lust? Are you a fornicator? Or maybe you have broken God’s ninth commandment by lying? Do you tell lies and think that the Creator God will not send liars to Hell? Or maybe you never pulled the trigger, but have you committed murder of the heart by despising and hating someone? Or do you break the second commandment which is part of God’s perfect Law:

Exodus 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exodus 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exodus 20:6  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

It’s not only in a religious sense as with Hinduism and Buddhism, but this also applies to idol worshipping soccer players and singers / actors, or maybe it is money and possessions, fame and fortune.

We are warned by God:

Matthew 16:26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

We are further warned:

Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 12:29  For our God is a consuming fire.

Judgment Day is approaching. We see the world’s communities are becoming more and more evil and wicked, for it reveals the depraved humanity that are living for their father the devil. Things are not going to get any better – look at the Middle East which is a cesspool of iniquity and lawlessness. In fact the world over reveals the lawlessness of men and their depraved hearts! And many think they are “good” – far from it; reprobate yes, but not good!

This is the Revelation of the Day of Judgment:

Rev 20:10  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Rev 20:11  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

If you are honest before God and listening to your conscience, you would be guilty before the Judge of the Universe and guilty persons will be sent to Hell for eternity. The only way to receive peace with God is to be reconciled back to God through His only begotten Son, the Saviour who gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice who took the sins of the world into His body and condemned the sin in His flesh. We read of His Divinity and Humanity in being the Saviour for reprobate sinners who will call on Him to be saved:

Philippians 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Philippians 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Philippians 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Philippians 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Philippians 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Repent today – Ukupenduka – for today is the day of salvation. You are not guaranteed another day on this earth. Ask Senzo or any other approximately 150 000 people who have died in the last 24 hours and been ushered into eternity.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:

Luke 13:3  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

John 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Luke 9:23  And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Luke 9:24  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Luke 9:25  For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Nelson Mandela and the Iconic man

130610Madiba46664jpgIt is with a grieved heart that we pen this article. It is day seventeen (17) since June 8, 2013, when ex-president of the Republic of South Africa Mr. Nelson Mandela was admitted to Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria for a recurring lung infection. The medical prognosis does not look good at all, in fact it looks very bleak even with all the professional medical practitioners at hand, whilst the presidential administration has also given us news that ‘Madiba’ now finds himself in a critical condition. An article that appeared in The Witness newspaper today reads: “Zuma: Madiba’s condition is critical”. Other press reports: “Zuma: Mandela remains in a critical condition” and “Presidency: Mandela in critical condition“.

Whilst the South African President Mr Jacob Zuma has called on the local and international communities to pray for Mandela, which we would understand that in this request it is for a “healthy recovery,” the question arises: How is that going to help? We need to see what God says about this!

Firstly, the tens of thousands upon thousands of religious groups, sects, cults, organisations, et al, do not all pray to the same God – NO! Not at all! This is confirmed and reflected in each of their religious practices, belief systems, ideologies and faiths that the gods of religion, to which the world over are requested to pray to, are not the One True God of Creation. ALMIGHTY GOD, YHVH, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (Israel) is not the One True God that all will be praying to!

We also read of the One True God in Exodus 3:6; 6:2,3; as follows:

Exodus 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Exodus 6:2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:

Exodus 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

This is where the problem lies. God gave commandment that His creation should have no other gods before Him and that they are not to make any graven image in the likeness of things in the heaven, of things on the earth and of things under the earth, and they are not to worship and bow down to them – that would be gods in deity and idol form and image. This is the case throughout the world today with all these religious practices – idolatry prevails. It is also an abomination that not only will wicked and evil mankind adopt praying to these false gods thinking they are praying to the ecumenical ‘God’ – the TRUE God of Creation will not hear these blasphemous prayers, and in fact He will turn His ear from the babbling of the masses. Here is a clear indictment that God brings against His people when Israel did not want Him to rule them, but they wanted a king to rule them. In 1 Samuel 8:18 we read, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures which is God’s Word:

1 Samuel 8:18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.

This is sadly the case what we have today where governments rule through presidents, prime ministers, monarchs, emissaries and the like, governed by man made customs, traditions, commandments, laws, statutes, edicts, acts and decrees, instead of living and abiding in the Commandments and the Way of GOD ALMIGHTY! You see, be it an individual or a people group, hear the Word of God you stiff-necked generation:

Jeremiah 7:16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

Jeremiah 11:14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

Do not be blaspheming GOD ALMIGHTY with your ecumenical debauchery, for HE will not hear your pleas in prayer. You have been warned! You have done ill in your doings in the sight of God. You think by your much speaking you will be heard. Oh foolish generation of vipers. Let HIM speak:

Micah 3:4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

Secondly, you the worldly enemies of God have made Nelson Mandela an idol, an icon that has been worshipped and raised upon a pedestal, you have bowed to him and worshipped and revered him as a god. GOD ALMIGHTY has this to say to your idolatrise behaviour that not only includes the person of Nelson Mandela, but the graven images made by men’s hands fashioned out of gold, silver, stone, wood, plastic and many other materials:

2 Kings 17:8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

2 Kings 17:9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

2 Kings 17:10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

2 Kings 17:11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:

2 Kings 17:12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

2 Kings 17:13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

2 Kings 17:14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

Thirdly, whilst prayer can be made to the One True God in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for physical healing, this can only be done through the One mediator who makes intercession between God and men by the man Christ Jesus, as we read:

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

If one does not believe in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of God and God in human form, then you are condemned already as we read, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures:

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Our prayers are to be first and foremost for the saving of the soul of a person. If God so wishes to heal a person physically according to HIS will and purpose, so be it! All Glory belongs to GOD ALMIGHTY and physical healings is not something mere mortals can demand of God. Whilst God can heal as HE pleases, we should be praying for God to grant HIS grace and save a soul. That is the greatest miracle any person can receive is receiving eternal life. As the Apostle Paul was speaking about true believers in God, we read in Romans 14:7-9 the following:

Romans 14:7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

Romans 14:8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

Romans 14:9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Fourthly, if all religions, differ in their theology, customs, traditions and commandments, and have rejected GOD ALMIGHTY’s way which is bringing glory to and through HIS Son Jesus the Christ, be assured GOD ALMIGHTY does not hear your feeble attempts of trying to be heard with your much speech. In the end times, which we are clearly in, the ecumenism that prevails where all the man-made religious systems of the world that are controlled by the

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Revelation 17:5)

the whore of Babylon the Roman Catholic ‘mother church’ can not reach God as it is idolatrise before GOD ALMIGHTY and HE will not hear you. This is what we see continually on the SABC news that the popish men of the cloth are pushing their agenda to no avail on their part. God will be glorified even in the destruction of wicked men, women and children for every knee should bow and every tongue should confess Jesus Christ as Lord to the glory of God the Father:

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We, my brother Lungisa Zondi and myself (Eastern Cape Mission and South Africa: Hilary Clinton pops in for lunch), have on a few occasions tried to have an audience with Nelson Mandela to make sure he understands the true Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and to call him to repentance towards God and his faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ, as we are still aware that he needs to repent for the ungodly laws that he promulgated as the then President of South Africa, which includes acts that allow abortion, homosexuality (same-sex marriages – The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa guarantees equal protection before the law to all citizens regardless of sexual orientation) and idolatry (religious freedom). Mr Mandela, true repentance will show a brokenness over one’s sins and a recanting of past abominations. These are three abominations that are leading citizens of South Africa straight to hell should they die before Judgment Day and ultimately into the lake of fire. You have been forewarned. Here is a further indictment against South Africa and the world community at large:

Isaiah 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

South Africa, Repent and Believe upon our Lord Jesus Christ – it is your only hope! Penduka!!

The Face of Evil and Wicked South Africa

This is the sad face of evil and wicked South Africa. When a nation is sold out to the devil and serves no longer the Creator God exclusively, this is what you get – interfaith debauchery. On 28th November 2012 the President of South Africa met with the National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA) which has been dissolved and is now known as the National Religious Leaders’ Council (NRLC). Here are two news articles for the NRLC meeting [(1) and (2)] that took place. They want to resolve “poverty and general social upliftment” together with other issues through an ecumenical system by bringing all faiths together – it will never work! God will not be mocked by having His Son Jesus Christ riduculed with such blasphemy! This is the type of debauchery that we are talking about. Look at some of the other websites here in South Africa that make a mockery of the One True Creator:

I wonder if the “reverend” Ray McCauley seazed the opportunity at the Union Buildings in Pretoria and actually preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the unbelievers who were present at that meeting – or is that possibly asking too much? This is what our Lord Jesus Christ said:

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

It is an abomination in the sight of a Holy God that man can blaspheme the One True God who revealed Himself as the Lord Jesus Christ who is LORD of all:

Act 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

Act 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Act 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Act 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

Act 10:40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

Act 10:41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

Act 10:42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

Act 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Here are the other blogposts (and a few historical posts) that have called on our President and peoples of South Africa to Repent and Believe the one and only Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ – the ONLY WAY God our Creator has given us:

Scripture warns us:

Proverb 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

And South Africa can learn from the Ugandan President who Publicly Repented! He did not just say he is sorry to the people – his prayer was directed to GOD!

A Gospel Tract for Catholics

Written by Michael Miller [Facebook]

In the Bible a man asks the Apostle Paul, “WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?” Paul replied, “believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved …” (Acts 16:30-31a). The Bible says salvation is, “by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph 2:8-9), and “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” (2 Tim 1:9). So the Bible states a person is saved because of God’s grace, and not by a person’s works. GRACE is a gift a person does not deserve. MERCY is when a person is not given what they deserve. Consider a criminal in prison under a death sentence for murder; if he is granted a pardon, this is grace and mercy. Grace, because he is made right with the Law even though he is guilty; mercy because he is not killed as he deserves for his crime. The Bible says that God is rich in mercy to those who call on Him (Rom 10:12 repent from their sins, and believe in Jesus. God gives “grace to the humble” but resists “the proud” (1 Pet 5:5).

WHAT IS BELIEF AND FAITH? Faith is believing God and acting accordingly. Faith believes God about what He says about Himself, His character, and His promises. Faith believes God about what He says about man (every man is a wicked sinner and deserving of death). Faith believes God when He says that He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save sinners by offering Himself on the cross to pay for their sins. Faith believes God when He says that if we believe in Jesus and repent from our sins; we will be saved. Faith means a person believes God when He says, “… there is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one …” (Rom 3:10-18).

THE CHARACTER OF GOD IS HOLY, morally perfect and separate from His creation (Isa 6:3, 55:8-9, 2 Chron 2:6, 6:18, Neh 9:6). God says “be Holy, for I am Holy” (1 Pet 1:15-16) and He requires moral perfection (Matt 5:48). God is a righteous judge (Psa 98:9), all powerful, all knowing and unchangeable (Psa 147:5, Heb 13:8). You can’t avoid His judgment (Psa 139:8, Dan 4:35). God “searches the heart” and will “render to every man according to his deeds.” (Jer 17:10). God is love and hates evil (1 John 4:16, Prov 6:16-19). God shows mercy to “thousands that love Him and keep His commandments” but He won’t clear the guilty. (Deut 7:9-11, Num 14:18).

ALL MEN ARE SINNERS. But what IS sin? And what will God DO to sinners in the judgment? The Bible says that sin is breaking God’s law (1 John 3:4). God has given many laws, for instance God gave 10 Commandments to Moses (Exo 20). We can see whether we have broken God’s law and whether we are a sinner, by seeing if we have broken any. Let us look at just half of them.

The 1st commandment is to have no other “gods” before the One True God. This means that you are to love God “with all of your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.” (Deut 6:5). If you have any “gods” before the True God, or if you refuse to love God fully the way you are commanded; then you are guilty.

The 2nd commandment is do not make any idols to worship. This can include any supposed “image” of God or another person, an angel, a saint, Mary, or a shrine of any kind. (Deut 4:12-19). Instead, God demands that He be faithfully and simply worshipped in “spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24). There is “one mediator between God and man, the man Jesus Christ;” Mary is not a joint “redeemer” to be worshipped (1 Tim 2:5). Consider how a loving father would feel if his children worshipped a statue of him? It would be even worse if his children worshipped a picture of an animal, or one of the father’s servants. In the same way, God condemns idols or images as blasphemy. He wants His people to worship Him in simple childlike faith and obedience to His commandments. (Matt 18:3). Peter refused to be have Cornelius worship him (Acts 10:26), Paul and Barnabas also refused to be worshipped, (Acts 14:11-18) and Angels refused worship, directing that all worship MUST be to God ALONE (Rev 19:10, 22:9, Judges 13:16). Mary never received worship in the Scriptures. Instead she refers to God as her “Savior”, and the Lord Jesus loved Mary, but does not give her special place among other disciples (Luke 1:46, Mark 3:35). Idolatry includes any veneration of a person other than God Himself. Veneration is a type of worship and is idolatry. If you have worshipped any idols, even supposedly “holy” ones; then you have broken this commandment.

The 3rd commandment is do not take God’s Name in “vain.” God promises to “not hold him guiltless who takes His Name in vain.” This would include using His Name as a curse word, or disrespectfully. It would also include claiming to be a “child of God” and committing acts of wickedness. If you have done either of these, even once; then you are guilty.

The 6th commandment is “you shall not kill.” The Lord Jesus goes further and says that if you “hate your brother without a cause” that you are guilty of murder. If you curse your brother or call him a name, God considers that murder. Murderers will not enter Heaven. (Matt 5:21-22, 1 John 3:15).

The 7th commandment is “you shall not commit adultery.” This isn’t just taking the spouse of another. Jesus said if you even “look on a woman to lust after her” that you have “committed adultery” with her. God promises to judge “adulterers and fornicators” and any person who commits sexual immorality will not enter Heaven. (Matt 5:28, Heb 13:4, 1 Cor 6:9). You have broken all of God’s commandments, but even if you kept a few, the Bible says that if you “break 1 commandment” then you are guilty of breaking “all” of the commandments (James 2:10).

So God sees you as a sinner, a idolatrous, blasphemous, murdering adulterer, and God promises that “the soul that sins shall die.”(Eze 18:20, Rom 2:6, Jer 31:30). The judgment of God is an eternal Hell which is described as flames, darkness and everlasting contempt. The Bible does not present any purgatory. There are only 2 destinations; Hell for those outside of Christ, and Heaven for those in Christ. (Rev 20:14-15, Matt 8:12, Mark 9:44-48, Dan 12:2, Rom 2:6-10).

THE GREAT DELIMMA. The Bible says it is an abomination before God to justify the wicked (Prov 17:15). So how can a Holy God forgive guilty sinners?

JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED FOR SIN. A criminal can’t pay a fine, but if another pays it; then justice is satisfied. This is what Jesus did for you (1 Tim 1:15, Rom 5:6, 1 Cor 15:3, Heb 9:15). God took on flesh (Heb 2:14), Jesus, He lived a sinless life and in love offered Himself on the cross as a sacrifice (John 3:16-18, 1 Pet 1:19, John 8:46) baring the wrath of God for your sins (1 Pet 3:18). He died, was buried, and resurrected the 3rd day showing the penalty fully paid for sin (Luke 9:22, Rom 4:25). Salvation is by grace, through faith, in Jesus alone (Acts 4:12, John 14:6).

REPENTANCE AND FAITH. God commands “all men everywhere to repent” and trust in Jesus alone (Acts 17:30, Mark 1:15). Repent, believe; humbly cry to God confessing and forsaking your sins (James 4:8, Rom 6:2). Pray for God to give you repentance and faith (Acts 11:18) begging for mercy (Psa 41:4, Luke 18:13, Prov 28:13). “He that comes to Me, I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37, Rom 10:13) “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a contrite heart” (Psa 51:17). “To this one I will look, he that is humble and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.” (Isa 66:2, 57:15, James 4:6).

THE NEW BIRTH. Jesus said you “must be born again” (John 3:3-8). In Christ you will become a “new creature” (2 Cor 5:17). God will change your heart to desire Holiness. Your sin will be put on Jesus, and His righteousness to you (2 Cor 5:21, 1 Cor 1:30, Rom 4:8).

What about Church Tradition? Traditions don’t save. Only Jesus Christ can save you. Examine where your traditions have come from and who is really served by them? Jesus said this when the Pharisees where making their traditions equal to Scripture, “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” (Matt 15:3). You must submit to Scripture, and according to the Apostle Paul since you have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus; you will not be made “perfect” with traditions (Gal 3:3).

What about the Pope? Christ is the Head of the church and not any man. Even Peter sinned according to Paul (Gal 2:11), so how can any other man be sinless and perfect in doctrine? All servants in the church are just servants and are not to “lord over” the church (Eph 5:23, 1 Pet 5:3). Peter never accepted the worship of men like the Pope (Acts 10:26).

What about Mass? The Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed passed the cup and broke bread with his disciples and said, “do this in remembrance of Me …” (1 Cor 11:24). Jesus did not say do this to become righteous or receive forgiveness. When you repent and put your trust in Jesus; you will receive the forgiveness of sins, and the righteousness of Christ, which is imputed to you by faith alone. Jesus didn’t say that this “memorial” meal was another sacrifice of Himself. Christ died once for all (1 Pet 3:18, Heb 9:26-28).

NEXT STEPS. Read the Bible daily and submit yourself to Scripture. Find a Bible-preaching church; see that the pastors of that church meet the qualifications of a Godly overseer in the church (1 Tim 3:1-7).

A Warning to Hypocrites. Are you already a professing Christian? Then “examine yourself to see if you are in the faith” (2 Cor 13:5); ask yourself if you are really trusting in Jesus alone, or your own works? Read 1 John and compare yourself to Scripture. “Make your calling and election sure.” (2 Pet 1:10). To hypocrites Jesus will say “I never knew you, depart from me, you who work lawlessness.” (Matt 7:22-23). Don’t take your salvation lightly.

“Christian bias on calendar” – The Witness

On Monday June 11, 2012 an article appeared in our local newspaper The Witness under the heading “PUBLIC INQUIRY LAUNCHED: Complaints over Christian bias on calendar – New look at public holidays” (by Philda Essop).

In the report the following statements appeared, quote:

“In a press statement issued last week the commission said a number of complaints and requests “have been received about the fact that public holidays recognise only Christianity and discriminate unfairly against the holidays of other faiths.”

“Afrikaans Handelsinstituut CEO Christo Van der Rheede said on inquiry yesterday that South Africa has too many holidays.

“”Holidays have a negative impact on productivity and economic growth. If we carry on like this, we run the risk of no longer being regarded as a productive country.” …

“I know that companies make internal arrangements with their staff during Jewish and Muslim festivals. Two Christian holidays, Good Friday and Christmas, are important, but some of the Christian holidays can be abolished,” said Van der Rheede, who was speaking in a personal capacity.”

There are three issues that need to be addressed and the record must be set straight. The press is a powerful media, that needs to be fair and should give honest reports, even exposing all corruption, fraud and lies, so we do need the freedom to report and know what is going on locally and internationally, but the press can also be misleading, corrupt and keep people uninformed and in bondage in their sin.

Firstly, whilst the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, No. 108 of 1996 respects and grants freedom of religion, and the choice of affiliation to all religions or none at all, God does not share the same view of man by respecting and granting a freedom to worship Him as they please through various religious practices. Jehovah, God Almighty has revealed Himself as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (Israel) (see Exodus 4:5) and He gives commandment in His First (v.3) and Second (vv.4-6) Commandments to His created beings that:

3Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. ~ Exodus 20:3-6

Although what might be interpreted as a bias toward Christian public holidays, there is no problem with this in that the God who created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, the God who reveals Himself in Isaiah 33:22 –

22For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

He is the same God that is the Saviour of the world “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8) and He is the God who His disciples followed, “… And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26).

Therefore, there is no discrimination against other faiths. In man’s wicked and evil understanding and his idolatry against the one true God of Creation Jesus Christ, who has always been from eternity past to eternity future:

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. ~ John 1:1-5

7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. ~ 1 John 5:7

8I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. ~ Revelation 1:8, Jesus Christ

12And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. ~ Revelation 22:12, 13, Jesus Christ

The problem here is not whether there is a bias of Christian public holidays against other faiths, but rather other religious faiths have turned from their Creator God and have blasphemed Him by worshipping false gods. The God who created you is Lord of you, whether you believe it or not!

Secondly, Mr Van der Rheede does not show wisdom at all with his statements, “Holidays have a negative impact on productivity and economic growth. If we carry on like this, we run the risk of no longer being regarded as a productive country.” The reason why this country is not blessed is that the crime and corruption by politicians and society is a result of following their wicked hearts and turning from their Creator, God Almighty. Holidays do not impact negatively on productivity and economic growth. Days do not control the markets, men do! If days control productivity then we have a real problem on our hands for we have too many weekend days – Saturdays and Sundays (104 per annum)! This is folly and shows the devoid of understanding of learned men. True wisdom comes from:

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. ~ Psalm 111:10

The problems that South Africa experiences with the lack of productivity, a ridiculously poor currency, inflated prices of petrol and groceries is as a direct result of mismanagement in government and ineffectual parties appointed to key positions that require an honest work ethic, no wonder international companies do not want to invest in a country where there is nepotism, fraud, corruption, stealing, lying and embezzlement of state and public funds, and in an environment where workers are given carte blanche to strike at any opportunity where greed for money dictates. The ‘downing-of-tools’ and striking bring cash flow and productivity problems. No-one works as unto the Lord as the Bible dictates:

3Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. ~ Proverbs 16:3

And we are warned in Scripture that:

17The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. ~ Psalm 9:17

11God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. ~ Psalm 7:11

26He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. 27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. ~ Proverbs 28:26, 27

2When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. ~ Proverbs 29:2

South Africa truly is mourning because the wicked beareth rule. Put religious public holidays aside for a moment and let us address “public holidays” that keep heroes of the past, dead and alive, continually being worshipped and glorified. This is idolatry and God says all idolaters will end up in Hell. Citizens of South Africa are continually being brainwashed into remembering the past which keeps them under bondage under a so-called democracy. As long as people are remembering the past, like June 16, 1976 – where were you on that day? – and having past events dramatized every year and every other occasion using the apartheid-card, there will be no healing and true forgiveness. Our Lord Jesus Christ says:

14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ~ Matthew 6:14, 15

This is not a democracy; this is socialism / communism disguised as democracy! Citizens are not free; they are slaves to another man-made system. And they also are slaves to their sin. This country needs a Theocracy. God tells us that if we want to be free then we need to be obedient to His Word:

31b… If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. ~ John 8:31b, 32

36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. ~ John 8:36

Jesus Christ said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). What God is saying is that there is no other way, no other truth, and no other life besides Him, as it is written:

19And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. 20As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God. ~ Deuteronomy 8:19, 20

Man is not in control of anything. God controls all things and even destroys nations that turn from Him. South Africa, you are warned. God will be glorified in your destruction. Just because a religion calls on “God”, it does not mean it is the True God of Creation. And that goes for professing Christians, too! Joining with other faiths or following schism doctrines in denominations and cults does not make you true believers in your worship of God Almighty.

Thirdly, dealing with the “two Christian holidays, Good Friday and Christmas,” do you not know that these days are man-made and pagan in origin? Have you never read the Holy Word of God, the Bible, properly and received revelation from the Holy Spirit, God Almighty? This world is duped into believing ‘a lot of stuff’, but sadly God’s people are perishing for lack of knowledge. True believers, born-again (John 3:3) children of God are commanded to worship God in spirit and truth:

24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. ~ John 4:24

Our Christian faith does not rest on whether a public day is given during a year or not. We do not need a day to be set aside by man to worship God. But then again, even if a “Christian day” had to be taken away, how many other faiths who do not worship our Lord Jesus Christ enjoys the benefit of taking the holidays set aside for the Christians? Should they not remain at work during those times? It shows the hypocrisy of those faiths! Maybe you need to read the Bible first and only then, I would suggest reading:

The Birth, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

It is also not understood which “some of the Christian holidays can be abolished” is referred to by Mr Van der Rheede. Here are the South African “public holidays” which total twelve days (as it appears in 2012):

 1 January  New Year’s Day
 21 March  Human Rights Day
 6 April  Good Friday
 9 April  Family Day
 27 April  Freedom Day
 1 May  Workers’ Day
 16 June  Youth Day
 9 August  National Women’s Day
 24 September  Heritage Day
16 December  Day of the Vow / Day of Reconciliation
 25 December  Christmas Day
 26 December  Day of Goodwill

A break down of category of days shows the following revealing statistics:

 Public Holidays (12 days)

12/365

3.29%

 Government Instituted (10 days)

10/365

2.74%

 “Christian” Holidays (3 days)

3/365

0.82%

Includes Day of the Vow, Dec. 16
 Weekends (104 days)

104/365

28.49%

Striking days (average of 20 days p.a.)

20/365

5.48%

 This is a conservative estimate

One can see where the problems lay from a man’s perspective. From God’s perspective, the biggest problem idolaters have is that on the Day of Judgment when God will hold His Court, all unrepentant sinners will receive a just reward, equitable for their sins against their Creator God and be sent to Hell for all eternity. If guilty, you will receive a payment for the wages of sin is death. The only way that you can escape God’s anger and burning wrath against you is to flee to the Son of God, Jesus Christ the Righteous. South Africa, and any other national reading this, you are called to Repentance – Repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21). That is your only hope!

20Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. 21Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. 22Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. 23I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. ~ Isaiah 45:20-24

Glorify thyself O Heavenly Father,

Idolatries – An Evil Abomination – Part 3

This is the third part that deals with the remaining idols and idolatries.

Idol

(1.) Heb. aven, “nothingness;” “vanity” (Isaiah 66:3; Isaiah 41:29; Deuteronomy 32:21; 1 Kings 16:13; Psalm 31:6; Jeremiah 8:19, etc.).

(2.) ‘Elil, “a thing of naught” (Psalm 97:7; Isaiah 19:3); a word of contempt, used of the gods of Noph (Ezekiel 30:13).

(3.) ‘Emah, “terror,” in allusion to the hideous form of idols (Jeremiah 50:38).

(4.) Miphletzeth, “a fright;” “horror” (1 Kings 15:13; 2 Chronicles 15:16).

(5.) Bosheth, “shame;” “shameful thing” (Jeremiah 11:13; Hosea 9:10); as characterizing the obscenity of the worship of Baal.

(6.) Gillulim, also a word of contempt, “dung;” “refuse” (Ezekiel 16:36; Ezekiel 20:8; Deuteronomy 29:17, marg.).

(7.) Shikkuts, “filth;” “impurity” (Ezekiel 37:23; Nahum 3:6).

(8.) Semel, “likeness;” “a carved image” (Deuteronomy 4:16).

(9.) Tselem, “a shadow” (Daniel 3:1; 1 Samuel 6:5), as distinguished from the “likeness,” or the exact counterpart.

(10.) Temunah, “similitude” (Deuteronomy 4:12-19). Here Moses forbids the several forms of Gentile idolatry.

(11.) ‘Atsab, “a figure;” from the root “to fashion,” “to labour;” denoting that idols are the result of man’s labour (Isaiah 48:5; Psalm 139:24, “wicked way;” literally, as some translate, “way of an idol”).

(12.) Tsir, “a form;” “shape” (Isaiah 45:16).

(13.) Matztzebah, a “statue” set up (Jeremiah 43:13); a memorial stone like that erected by Jacob (Genesis 28:18; Genesis 31:45; Genesis 35:14, 20), by Joshua (Joshua 4:9), and by Samuel (1 Samuel 7:12). It is the name given to the statues of Baal (2 Kings 3:2; 2 Kings 10:27).

(14.) Hammanim, “sun-images.” Hamman is a synonym of Baal, the sun-god of the Phoenicians (2 Chronicles 34:4, 7; 2 Chronicles 14:3, 5; Isaiah 17:8).

(15.) Maskith, “device” (Leviticus 26:1; Numbers 33:52). In Leviticus 26:1, the words “image of stone” (A.V.) denote “a stone or cippus with the image of an idol, as Baal, Astarte, etc.” In Ezekiel 8:12, “chambers of imagery” (maskith), are “chambers of which the walls are painted with the figures of idols;” compare Ezekiel 8:10, 11.

(16.) Pesel, “a graven” or “carved image” (Isaiah 44:10-20). It denotes also a figure cast in metal (Deuteronomy 7:25; Deuteronomy 27:15; Isaiah 40:19; Isaiah 44:10).

(17.) Massekah, “a molten image” (Deuteronomy 9:12; Judges 17:3, 4).

(18.) Teraphim, pl., “images,” family gods (penates) worshipped by Abram’s kindred (Joshua 24:14). Put by Michal in David’s bed (Judges 17:5; Judges 18:14, 17, 18, 20; 1 Samuel 19:13).

“Nothing can be more instructive and significant than this multiplicity and variety of words designating the instruments and inventions of idolatry.”

Idolatry

Image-worship or divine honour paid to any created object. Paul describes the origin of idolatry in Romans 1:21-25 : men forsook God, and sank into ignorance and moral corruption (Romans 1:28).

The forms of idolatry are,

(1.) Fetishism, or the worship of trees, rivers, hills, stones, etc.

(2.) Nature worship, the worship of the sun, moon, and stars, as the supposed powers of nature.

(3.) Hero worship, the worship of deceased ancestors, or of heroes.

In Scripture, idolatry is regarded as of heathen origin, and as being imported among the Hebrews through contact with heathen nations. The first allusion to idolatry is in the account of Rachel stealing her father’s teraphim (Genesis 31:19), which were the relics of the worship of other gods by Laban’s progenitors “on the other side of the river in old time” (Joshua 24:2). During their long residence in Egypt the Hebrews fell into idolatry, and it was long before they were delivered from it (Joshua 24:14; Ezekiel 20:7). Many a token of God’s displeasure fell upon them because of this sin.

The idolatry learned in Egypt was probably rooted out from among the people during the forty years’ wanderings; but when the Jews entered Palestine, they came into contact with the monuments and associations of the idolatry of the old Canaanitish races, and showed a constant tendency to depart from the living God and follow the idolatrous practices of those heathen nations. It was their great national sin, which was only effectually rebuked by the Babylonian exile. That exile finally purified the Jews of all idolatrous tendencies.

The first and second commandments are directed against idolatry of every form. Individuals and communities were equally amenable to the rigorous code. The individual offender was devoted to destruction (Exodus 22:20). His nearest relatives were not only bound to denounce him and deliver him up to punishment (Deuteronomy 13:2-10), but their hands were to strike the first blow when, on the evidence of two witnesses at least, he was stoned (Deuteronomy 17:2-7). To attempt to seduce others to false worship was a crime of equal enormity (Deuteronomy 13:6-10). An idolatrous nation shared the same fate. No facts are more strongly declared in the Old Testament than that the extermination of the Canaanites was the punishment of their idolatry (Exodus 34:15, 16; Deuteronomy 7; Deuteronomy 12:29-31; Deuteronomy 20:17), and that the calamities of the Israelites were due to the same cause (Jeremiah 2:17). “A city guilty of idolatry was looked upon as a cancer in the state; it was considered to be in rebellion, and treated according to the laws of war. Its inhabitants and all their cattle were put to death.” Jehovah was the theocratic King of Israel, the civil Head of the commonwealth, and therefore to an Israelite idolatry was a state offense (1 Samuel 15:23), high treason. On taking possession of the land, the Jews were commanded to destroy all traces of every kind of the existing idolatry of the Canaanites (Exodus 23:24, 32; Exodus 34:13; Deuteronomy 7:5, 25; Deuteronomy 12:1-3).

In the New Testament the term idolatry is used to designate covetousness (Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13; Colossians 3:5; Ephesians 5:5).

Jupiter

The principal deity of the ancient Greeks and Romans. He was worshipped by them under various epithets. Barnabas was identified with this god by the Lycaonians (Acts 14:12), because he was of stately and commanding presence, as they supposed Jupiter to be. There was a temple dedicated to this god outside the gates of Lystra (Acts 14:13).

Mercurius

The Hermes (i.e., “the speaker”) of the Greeks (Acts 14:12), a heathen god represented as the constant attendant of Jupiter, and the god of eloquence. The inhabitants of Lystra took Paul for this god because he was the “chief speaker.”

Moloch

King, the name of the national god of the Ammonites, to whom children were sacrificed by fire. He was the consuming and destroying and also at the same time the purifying fire. In Amos 5:26, “your Moloch” of the Authorized Version is “your king” in the Revised Version (Compare Acts 7:43). Solomon (1 Kings 11:7) erected a high place for this idol on the Mount of Olives, and from that time till the days of Josiah his worship continued (2 Kings 23:10, 13). In the days of Jehoahaz it was partially restored, but after the Captivity wholly disappeared. He is also called Molech (Leviticus 18:21; Leviticus 20:2-5, etc.), Milcom (1 Kings 11:5, 33, etc.), and Malcham (Zephaniah 1:5). This god became Chemosh among the Moabites.

Necromancer

(Deuteronomy 15:11), i.e., “one who interrogates the dead,” as the word literally means, with the view of discovering the secrets of futurity (Compare 1 Samuel 28:7).

Queen of Heaven

(Jeremiah 7:18; Jeremiah 44:17, 25), the moon, worshipped by the Assyrians as the receptive power in nature.

Satan

Adversary; accuser. When used as a proper name, the Hebrew word so rendered has the article “the adversary” (Job 1:6-12; Job 2:1-7). In the New Testament it is used as interchangeable with Diabolos, or the devil, and is so used more than thirty times.

He is also called “the dragon,” “the old serpent” (Revelation 12:9; Revelation 20:2); “the prince of this world” (John 12:31; John 14:30); “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2); “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4); “the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2). The distinct personality of Satan and his activity among men are thus obviously recognized. He tempted our Lord in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). He is “Beelzebub, the prince of the devils” (Matthew 12:24). He is “the constant enemy of God, of Christ, of the divine kingdom, of the followers of Christ, and of all truth; full of falsehood and all malice, and exciting and seducing to evil in every possible way.” His power is very great in the world. He is a “roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Men are said to be “taken captive by him” (2 Timothy 2:26). Christians are warned against his “devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11), and called on to “resist” him (James 4:7).

Christ redeems his people from “him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). Satan has the “power of death,” not as lord, but simply as executioner.

Shrines, Silver

Little models and medallions of the temple and image of Diana of Ephesus (Acts 19:24). The manufacture of these was a very large and profitable business.

Sorcerer

From the Latin sortiarius, one who casts lots, or one who tells the lot of others.

In Daniel 2:2 it is the rendering of the Hebrew mekhashphim, i.e., mutterers, men who professed to have power with evil spirits. The practice of sorcery exposed to severest punishment (Malachi 3:5; Revelation 21:8; Revelation 22:15).

Stargazers

(Isaiah 47:13), those who pretend to tell what will occur by looking upon the stars. The Chaldean astrologers “divined by the rising and setting, the motions, aspects, colour, degree of light, etc., of the stars.”

Stoics

A sect of Greek philosophers at Athens, so called from the Greek word stoa i.e., a “porch” or “portico,” where they have been called “the Pharisees of Greek paganism.” The founder of the Stoics was Zeno, who flourished about 300 B.C. He taught his disciples that a man’s happiness consisted in bringing himself into harmony with the course of the universe. They were trained to bear evils with indifference, and so to be independent of externals. Materialism, pantheism, fatalism, and pride were the leading features of this philosophy.

Tammuz

A corruption of Dumuzi, the Accadian sun-god (the Adonis of the Greeks), the husband of the goddess Ishtar. In the Chaldean calendar there was a month set apart in honour of this god, the month of June to July, the beginning of the summer solstice. At this festival, which lasted six days, the worshippers, with loud lamentations, bewailed the funeral of the god, they sat “weeping for Tammuz” (Ezekiel 8:14).

The name, also borrowed from Chaldea, of one of the months of the Hebrew calendar.

Tartak

Prince of darkness, one of the gods of the Arvites, who colonized part of Samaria after the deportation of Israel by Shalmaneser (2 Kings 17:31).

Teraphim

Givers of prosperity, idols in human shape, large or small, analogous to the images of ancestors which were revered by the Romans. In order to deceive the guards sent by Saul to seize David, Michal his wife prepared one of the household teraphim, putting on it the goat’s, hair cap worn by sleepers and invalids, and laid it in a bed, covering it with a mantle. She pointed it out to the soldiers, and alleged that David was confined to his bed by a sudden illness (1 Samuel 19:13-16). Thus she gained time for David’s escape. It seems strange to read of teraphim, images of ancestors, preserved for superstitious purposes, being in the house of David. Probably they had been stealthily brought by Michal from her father’s house. “Perhaps,” says Bishop Wordsworth, “Saul, forsaken by God and possessed by the evil spirit, had resorted to witchcraft); and God overruled evil for good, and made his very teraphim (by the hand of his own daughter) to be an instrument for David’s escape.” –  Deane’s David, p. 32. Josiah attempted to suppress this form of idolatry (2 Kings 23:24). The ephod and teraphim are mentioned together in Hosea 3:4. It has been supposed by some (Cheyne’s Hosea) that the “ephod” here mentioned, and also in Judges 8:24-27, was not the part of the sacerdotal dress so called (Exodus 28:6-14), but an image of Jehovah overlaid with gold or silver (compare Judges 17:1-13, 18; 1 Samuel 21:9; 1 Samuel 23:6, 9; 1 Samuel 30:7, 8), and is thus associated with the teraphim.

Witch

Occurs only in Exodus 22:18, as the rendering of mekhashshepheh, the feminine form of the word, meaning “enchantress” (R.V., “sorceress”), and in Deuteronomy 18:10, as the rendering of mekhashshepheth, the masculine form of the word, meaning “enchanter.”

Witchcraft

(1 Samuel 15:23; 2 Kings 9:22; 2 Chronicles 33:6; Micah 5:12; Nahum 3:4; Galatians 5:20). In the popular sense of the word no mention is made either of witches or of witchcraft in Scripture. The “witch of En-dor” (1 Samuel 28) was a necromancer, i.e., one who feigned to hold converse with the dead. The damsel with “a spirit of divination” (Acts 16:16) was possessed by an evil spirit, or, as the words are literally rendered, “having a spirit, a pithon.” The reference is to the heathen god Apollo, who was regarded as the god of prophecy.

Wizard

A pretender to supernatural knowledge and power, “a knowing one,” as the original Hebrew word signifies.

Such an one was forbidden on pain of death to practice his deceptions (Leviticus 19:31; Leviticus 20:6, 27; 1 Samuel 28:3; Isaiah 8:19; Isaiah 19:3).

Worshipper

(Gr. neocoros = temple sweeper [Acts 19:35] of the great goddess Diana). This name neocoros appears on most of the extant Ephesian coins.

Idolatries – An Evil Abomination – Part 2

We will look at the various idols and gods that were worshipped during the Old and New Testaments with extensive quotes from Easton’s Bible Dictionary and some references to the idolaters. The idols of today find many of their beginnings from the idol worship referred to in the Bible.

Asherah

Plural Asherim in Revised Version, instead of “grove” and “groves” of the Authorized Version. This was the name of a sensual Canaanitish goddess Astarte, the feminine of the Assyrian Ishtar. Its symbol was the stem of a tree deprived of its boughs, and rudely shaped into an image, and planted in the ground. Such religious symbols (“groves”) are frequently alluded to in Scripture (Exodus 34:13; Judges 6:25; 2 Kings 23:6; 1 Kings 16:33, etc.). These images were also sometimes made of silver or of carved stone (2 Kings 21:7; “the graven image of Asherah,” R.V.). (See GROVE [1].).

Ashtoreth

The moon goddess of the Phoenicians, representing the passive principle in nature, their principal female deity; frequently associated with the name of Baal, the sun-god, their chief male deity (Judges 10:6; 1 Samuel 7:4; 1 Samuel 12:10). These names often occur in the plural (Ashtaroth, Baalim), probably as indicating either different statues or different modifications of the deities. This deity is spoken of as Ashtoreth of the Zidonians. She was the Ishtar of the Accadians and the Astarte of the Greeks (Jeremiah 44:17; 1 Kings 11:5, 1 Kings 11:33; 2 Kings 23:13). There was a temple of this goddess among the Philistines in the time of Saul (1 Samuel 31:10). Under the name of Ishtar, she was one of the great deities of the Assyrians. The Phoenicians called her Astarte. Solomon introduced the worship of this idol (1 Kings 11:33). Jezebel’s 400 priests were probably employed in its service (1 Kings 18:19). It was called the “queen of heaven” (Jeremiah 44:25).

Baal

Lord. The name appropriated to the principal male god of the Phoenicians. It is found in several places in the plural BAALIM (Judges 2:11; Judges 10:10; 1 Kings 18:18; Jeremiah 2:23; Hosea 2:17). Baal is identified with Molech (Jeremiah 19:5). It was known to the Israelites as Baal-peor (Numbers 25:3; Deuteronomy 4:3), was worshipped till the time of Samuel (1 Samuel 7:4), and was afterwards the religion of the ten tribes in the time of Ahab (1 Kings 16:31-33; 1 Kings 18:19, 22). It prevailed also for a time in the kingdom of Judah (2 Kings 8:27; compare 2 Kings 11:18; 2 Kings 16:3; 2 Chronicles 28:2). Till finally put an end to by the severe discipline of the Captivity (Zephaniah 1:4-6). The priests of Baal were in great numbers (1 Kings 18:19), and of various classes (2 Kings 10:19). Their mode of offering sacrifices is described in 1 Kings 18:25-29. The sun-god, under the general title of Baal, or “lord,” was the chief object of worship of the Canaanites. Each locality had its special Baal, and the various local Baals were summed up under the name of Baalim, or “lords.” Each Baal had a wife, who was a colourless reflection of himself.

Baalim

Plural of Baal; images of the god Baal (Judges 2:11; 1 Samuel 7:4).

Baal-peor

Lord of the opening, a god of the Moabites (Numbers 25:3; Numbers 31:16; Joshua 22:17), worshipped by obscene rites. So called from Mount Peor, where this worship was celebrated, the Baal of Peor. The Israelites fell into the worship of this idol (Numbers 25:3, 5, 18; Deuteronomy 4:3; Psalm 106:28; Hosea 9:10).

Baal-zebub

Fly-lord, the god of the Philistines at Ekron (2 Kings 1:2, 3, 16. This name was given to the god because he was supposed to be able to avert the plague of flies which in that region was to be feared. He was consulted by Ahaziah as to his recovery.

Beelzebub

(Gr. form Beelzebul), the name given to Satan, and found only in the New Testament (Matthew 10:25; Matthew 12:24, 27; Mark 3:22). It is probably the same as Baalzebub (q.v.), the god of Ekron, meaning “the lord of flies,” or, as others think, “the lord of dung,” or “the dung-god.”

Bel

The Aramaic form of Baal, the national god of the Babylonians (Isaiah 46:1; Jeremiah 50:2; Jeremiah 51:44). It signifies “lord.” (See BAAL.)

Chemarim

Black (Zephaniah 1:4; rendered “idolatrous priests” in 2 Kings 23:5, and “priests” in Hosea 10:5). Some derive this word from the Assyrian Kamaru, meaning “to throw down,” and interpret it as describing the idolatrous priests who prostrate themselves before the idols. Others regard it as meaning “those who go about in black” or “ascetics.”

Chemosh

The destroyer, subduer, or fishgod, the god of the Moabites (Numbers 21:29; Jeremiah 48:7, 13, 46). The worship of this god, “the abomination of Moab,” was introduced at Jerusalem by Solomon (1 Kings 11:7), but was abolished by Josiah (2 Kings 23:13). On the “Moabite Stone” (q.v.), Mesha (2 Kings 3:5) ascribes his victories over the king of Israel to this god, “And Chemosh drove him before my sight.”

Daemon

The Greek form, rendered “devil” in the Authorized Version of the New Testament. Daemons are spoken of as spiritual beings (Matthew 8:16; Matthew 10:1; Matthew 12:43-45) at enmity with God, and as having a certain power over man (James 2:19; Revelation 16:14). They recognize our Lord as the Son of God (Matthew 8:20; Luke 4:41). They belong to the number of those angels that “kept not their first estate, “unclean spirits,” “fallen angels,” the angels of the devil (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 12:7-9). They are the “principalities and powers” against which we must “wrestle” (Ephesians 6:12).

Dagon

Little fish; diminutive from dag = a fish, the fish-god; the national god of the Philistines (Judges 16:23). This idol had the body of a fish with the head and hands of a man. It was an Assyrio-Babylonian deity, the worship of which was introduced among the Philistines through Chaldea.

The most famous of the temples of Dagon were at Gaza (Judges 16:23-30) and Ashdod (1 Samuel 5:1-7).

Devil

(Gr. diabolos), a slanderer, the arch-enemy of man’s spiritual interest (Job 1:6; Revelation 2:10; Zechariah 3:1). He is called also “the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10).

In Leviticus 17:7 the word “devil” is the translation of the Hebrew sair, meaning a “goat” or “satyr” (Isaiah 13:21; Isaiah 34:14), alluding to the wood-daemons, the objects of idolatrous worship among the heathen.

In Deuteronomy 32:17 and Psalm 106:37 it is the translation of Hebrew shed, meaning lord, and idol, regarded by the Jews as a “demon,” as the word is rendered in the Revised Version.

In the narratives of the Gospels regarding the “casting out of devils” a different Greek word (daimon) is used. In the time of our Lord there were frequent cases of demoniacal possession (Matthew 12:25-30; Mark 5:1-20; Luke 4:35; Luke 10:18, etc.).

Diana

So called by the Romans; called Artemis by the Greeks, the “great” goddess worshipped among heathen nations under various modifications. Her most noted temple was that at Ephesus. It was built outside the city walls, and was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. “First and last it was the work of 220 years; built of shining marble; 342 feet long by 164 feet broad; supported by a forest of columns, each 56 feet high; a sacred museum of masterpieces of sculpture and painting. At the centre, hidden by curtains, within a gorgeous shrine, stood the very ancient image of the goddess, on wood or ebony reputed to have fallen from the sky. Behind the shrine was a treasury, where, as in ‘the safest bank in Asia,’ nations and kings stored their most precious things. The temple as St. Paul saw it subsisted till A.D. 262, when it was ruined by the Goths” (Acts 19:23-41). Moule on Ephesians: Introduction.

Easter

Originally a Saxon word (Eostre), denoting a goddess of the Saxons, in honour of whom sacrifices were offered about the time of the Passover. Hence the name came to be given to the festival of the Resurrection of Christ, which occurred at the time of the Passover. In the early English versions this word was frequently used as the translation of the Greek pascha (the Passover). When the Authorized Version (1611) was formed, the word “passover” was used in all passages in which this word pascha occurred, except in Acts 12:4.

Epicureans

Followers of Epicurus (who died at Athens 270 B.C.), or adherents of the Epicurean philosophy (Acts 17:18). This philosophy was a system of atheism, and taught men to seek as their highest aim a pleasant and smooth life. They have been called the “Sadducees” of Greek paganism. They, with the Stoics, ridiculed the teaching of Paul (Acts 17:18). They appear to have been greatly esteemed at Athens.

Eth-baal

With Baal, a king of Sidon (940-908 B.C.), father of Jezebel, who was the wife of Ahab (1 Kings 16:31). He is said to have been also a priest of Astarte, whose worship was closely allied to that of Baal, and this may account for his daughter’] zeal in promoting idolatry in Israel. This marriage of Ahab was most fatal to both Israel and Judah. Dido, the founder of Carthage, was his granddaughter.

Familiar Spirit

Sorcerers or necromancers, who professed to call up the dead to answer questions, were said to have a “familiar spirit” (Deuteronomy 18:11; 2 Kings 21:6; 2 Chronicles 33:6; Leviticus 19:31; Leviticus 20:6; Isaiah 8:19; Isaiah 29:4). Such a person was called by the Hebrews an ‘ob, which properly means a leather bottle; for sorcerers were regarded as vessels containing the inspiring demon. This Hebrew word was equivalent to the pytho of the Greeks, and was used to denote both the person and the spirit which possessed him (Leviticus 20:27; 1 Samuel 28:8; compare Acts 16:16). The word “familiar” is from the Latin familiaris, meaning a “household servant,” and was intended to express the idea that sorcerers had spirits as their servants ready to obey their commands.

Graven Image

Deuteronomy 27:15; Psalm 97:7 (Heb. pesel), refers to the household gods of idolaters. “Every nation and city had its own gods. Yet every family had its separate household or tutelary god.”

Grove

(1.) Heb. ‘asherah, properly a wooden image, or a pillar representing Ashtoreth, a sensual Canaanitish goddess, probably usually set up in a grove (2 Kings 21:7; 2 Kings 23:4). In the Revised Version the word “Asherah” (q.v.) is introduced as a proper noun, the name of the wooden symbol of a goddess, with the plurals Asherim (Exodus 34:13) and Asheroth (Judges 3:13).

The LXX. have rendered asherah in 2 Chronicles 15:16 by “Astarte.” The Vulgate has done this also in Judges 3:7.

(2.) Heb. ‘eshel (Genesis 21:33). In 1 Samuel 22:6 and 1 Samuel 31:13 the Authorized Version renders this word by “tree.” In all these passages the Revised Version renders by “tamarisk tree.” It has been identified with the Tamariscus orientalis, five species of which are found in Palestine.

(3.) The Heb. word ‘elon, uniformly rendered in the Authorized Version by “plain,” properly signifies a grove or plantation. In the Revised Version it is rendered, pl., “oaks” (Genesis 13:18; Genesis 14:13; Genesis 18:1; Genesis 12:6; Deuteronomy 11:30; Joshua 19:33). In the earliest times groves are mentioned in connection with religious worship. The heathen consecrated groves to particular gods, and for this reason they were forbidden to the Jews (Jeremiah 17:3; Ezekiel 20:28).

Praise Report

CSA BMX & Cycling South African Championships 2012

The Word of God and the testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ were taken to Alexandra Park, Pietermaritzburg, KZN from Friday 27th through Sunday 29th April 2012. The 27th April was a public holiday named Freedom Day – the date of South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994 – which was a springboard for the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the ONLY One who can truly make you free (see John 8:32, 36). I was able to speak to a few young “up-and-coming” African cyclists under their team tent, and I do request prayer for Siphiwe Msibi, Bongani (a Zionist) and Pecko who engaged me in conversation and asked searching questions, and also for their teammates who heard the Good News of Jesus Christ, too. [On Saturday, I was able to hand them each a Sesotho ‘Help From Above’ – ‘Thuso E Tsoang Holimo’ – booklet as I had found out they were from Gauteng province and Sotho speaking.] A few other conversations were had with various cyclists and some of their family spectators, and there were also some who rejected the Biblical material on offer to them. We pray for God’s mercy to all who heard and received the Gospel of His blessed Son Jesus Christ.

Many Gospel tracts were handed out on the first day, and later I was joined around lunchtime by Frances, Dehan and Peter and Sheila Clover from a local Baptist Church who handed out Gospel Tracts and evangelised one-on-one on this public holiday. Their sacrificial endeavours were directed in the direction of the heretic following of the ‘Universal Church of the kingdom of god’, who were present for an open-air prosperity-gospel service at the Midlands’ Cricket Oval, alongside the Sax Young Cycling Track. It was also during this time that I engaged an unmarried young mother, with her infant in her arms, named Lungila – a ‘Universal Church’ attendee – who was extremely open to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, praise God, who said she would definitely read the material I had given her and she would examine the claims I had shared with her about the UC’s Brazilian pastors sharing ‘another gospel’ and not the True Gospel of the Bible.

Later, when the co-labourers had left me, I found myself being enraged with a righteous anger against the false preaching by the English speaking Brazilian pastor – who had an isiZulu translator – who spoke a man-centred, prosperity-blessing, false gospel for all to hear, including those in attendance at the BMX and Cycling tracks as the Cricket Oval is right next to them. I was at the refreshment tent at the time and raised my voice against the heresies he was teaching – calling him to teach the people correctly and that he is sending them to hell with his lies – that they must all ‘Ukupenduka’ (Repent). It was at this time when one of the UC’s ushers came eye-ball to eye-ball with me telling me to leave, but I called him to “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21) to his face. The usher was ushered away by another usher. Praise be to God for giving me boldness and courage to withstand these evil speakers. I dusted off my feet after many on the Oval’s bleachers and those standing around heard the call to repentance!

On Saturday, Brother Lungisa Zondi and I headed back to the tracks. We handed out some Gospel Tracts and had some brief conversations. It was whist standing up at the top of the bleachers watching some of the action taking place on both sides of us – the bleachers were between the BMX and Cycling tracks – during one of the BMX heats a rider crashed going into turn one, and whilst he lay there injured on the track (we had sympathy for his mishap and prayed our God would heal him of his injuries), whilst he was receiving first aid medical attention, there was a lull in proceedings as the Lord opened an opportunity for me to raise my voice from the top of the bleachers and use the accident as a reference that we do not know what might befall us, and just as this young rider did not know that he would be receiving this medical attention today, while he knew that he was taking risks being a BMX rider, so is life full of risks and calamities and death can visit any person present at any time. From there our gracious God allowed me to share the Law and the Gospel of Grace to competitors and spectators alike calling them to repentance toward Him. I heard some murmurs, which did not distract from the preaching of the Good News of our Glorious God Jesus Christ. I had asked Brother Lungisa afterwards who filled me in who ‘murmured’ – some from the tents below us – as I had also noticed some quizzical glances during the preaching, but we also wished the rider a speedy recovery in Jesus’ Name when he was taken away by ambulance. Praise be to Jesus!

Later in the day we had another interesting encounter with a young coloured Roman Catholic man named JP. What started the conversation was that we saw three men in bright red tracksuit tops with a badge over the heart and Ephesians 6:11 emblazoned thereunder. I looked up the Scripture first, being:

11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ~ Ephesians 6:11

When I noticed on the back, just below the collar was an emblazoned “The armour of God”, I questioned JP, who was standing closer to me, where they fellowship? Where are they from? Etc. Making ‘small talk’, and then we found out that JP is a Roman Catholic and his two friends are protestant believers – although the two friends never entered into the conversation at all – Lungisa and I shared with JP the heretical teachings of the papal system. He listened at first, but then started getting defensive, until later he said: “This conversation is ending now.” We challenged him and do hope and pray the Holy Spirit brings this man to examine his faith and the false teachings he is receiving about Mary being sinless, the mass and substantiation, child baptism, praying to saints, statues and idolatry, doing the rosary and “Hail Mary’s”, the teaching of purgatory, Mary being co-redemtrix and co-mediatrix (heresies) in the RC Catechism, etc. He was not well versed in his own beliefs of the Romish Church as a new-believer of that system and it would appear that his two ‘protestant friends’ have never warned him of the RC heresies. We do wander if they are true friends at all? We also shared the analogy of: “Imagine if we drove past your house on the way to the tracks today and we saw your house on fire and your family caught inside. If we did not stop and help, would you call us friends? No, of course not! You would have wanted us to stop and help. Well, we are now warning you that your house is on fire.” We were warning him of the “wiles of the devil.” The three of them left shortly thereafter, and we had some “stares-to-go” from them! This was yet another day giving Glory to Jesus!

On Sunday, we headed out again to the SA Champs and Lungisa had a long conversation with some question-asking youth on the same bleachers we found ourselves on the day before. We handed out some more Gospel Tracts and took some photos of the proceedings on this last day we would be there. We do thank God our Father for allowing us the privilege of sharing His Word with all He directed us to. Soli Deo Gloria.

City Centre Evangelism

On Wednesday 2nd May I was strengthened of the Lord Jesus Christ and was able to preach non-stop outside the Master of the High Court, Pietermaritzburg’s building for two and a half hours without a break and without anyone coming out to stop me. I also noticed some windows were opened and a staff member stood at the window on the first floor listening. Our Lord Jesus Christ continues to glorify our Father.

On Thursday 3rd May, Lungisa and I were lead of the Holy Spirit to preach at various points in Pietermaritzburg. We started walking down Church Street. Outside PEP Stores Lungisa preached to lines of people gathered on the curb to the sidewalk as they waited to get various government grants. While Lungisa preached in isiZulu, I handed out Gospel Tracts to all in line and passer-by foot traffic. From there we proceeded down to the Magistrate’s Court. There were some illegal street hawkers plying their trades selling their wares on the sidewalk as I preached the sins of sinful man being transgressors of the law and sinners against God and redemption through Jesus Christ alone. Many heard including court-goers, and when the City Municipal Police arrived, they spoke to Lungisa about me preaching outside a court building that has trials in progress, I was able to finish and it was also at the very time my preaching had ended. We thanked the officers and Lungisa gave them Gospel material, too! No time to argue about rights to preach or not, when the Word went forth at its given time, but the illegal hawkers they scattered like cockroaches being found out when the lights are turned on! They heard the Word of God; they might have escaped the authorities in this lifetime, but they haven’t escaped God their Judge. Unless they repent, they will perish!

We continued down Church Street passing masses of humanity until we came to the Muslim mosque. Brother Lungisa and I were greeted at that time, as we prepared to open the Word of God, to the blaring midday “call to prayer”. Lungisa said he was willing to preach even with that noise, but it stopped, and the Islam-worshippers of the moon god made their way past us towards the mosque. While Lungisa preached I handed out some more Gospel Tracts to the foot traffic downtown, when an Indian woman standing nearby came over and asked me for one. Her name is Chandin and she is a born again believer of Jesus Christ. Chandin told me that her sister, Shamilla Ramsuk, has just had an operation and is in the East Street Midlands Hospital (which was about 200-300 meters away from where we were standing) and that she is a “kinda-believer” and she wanted us to pray for her. I asked her certain questions about her sister and found out that she does believe in Jesus Christ, but her belief is not strong. I took down the particulars of Chandin’s sister’s whereabouts at the hospital and was told that visiting hours was at 15H00. I said we would visit her. She then left, and I started trying to get Gospel material into the hands of the Muslim men returning to their work from the mosque. I managed to get one or two men to take, might be more, but what I did notice, that I shared with Lungisa after he had done preaching, was seeing that the men either rolled up the hems of their pants to show off their socks or ankles or had them sewn short, as a show that they are not “prideful” but “humble.” This is outward works of self-righteousness. Yet they were full of pride not to take some material, as they either clasped their hands behind their backs or nodded “no”, coming from the mosque, but what caught some of them in their lust was seeing “money” extended to them – yes, the “Ten Grand” money tract. Makes you think, doesn’t it? Why did they go to the mosque at all?

We than headed back uptown to where the “seed-sower” was parked and made our way back downtown to the hospital as promised. We found a parking right outside the hospital – thank you Father – and made our way in to go and visit Shamilla. At 15H00 we visited her and we were able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her and her husband. We gave them Bible literature, when Chandin also arrived. This was more a trial for us as well as an opportunity to share Christ with this family – would we be obedient to a request to visit someone in hospital? We thank God for directing our steps to preach at various points along Church Street, and therefore we were approached by Chandin and had this blessed opportunity to visit the sick in hospital and share Christ. Praise God for showing us to be not only hearers, but doers of the word (see James 1:22). We left them each with a copy of “Why Christianity?” (http://www.livingwaters.com/) and we prayed for Shamilla’s healing both physically and spiritually in Jesus’ Name. It was an absolutely wonderful day, all praise and glory to our Great King and God – our Lord Jesus Christ, the Righteous.

Saturday City Outreach and the Hindu Temple

On Saturday 5th May we headed out as usual into our city to preach on the corner of Church Street and Commercial Road opposite the City Hall – a very busy intersection, with a ‘Flea-market’ also on the corner in the old Court gardens. This day we would have a larger gathering of seed-sowers: Lungisa Zondi, Thulani Mkhize, Phillip Amakye, Jono Anderson and me. We had gone to buy some booklets and isiZulu Gospel pamphlets and then hit the street corner. Lungisa had arrived earlier and was preaching already before we arrived at various times. Town was bustling with much foot traffic, the preaching went forth, Gospel material was handed out, Phillip sang a praise song to Jesus and Lungisa was asked by an African girl to go with her and investigate some wicked men who used evil witchcraft to hustle her out of her money. It all was happening today, and even our supply of booklets and pamphlets were gone in no time at all – about 600 or so. Our Lord had me expound Hebrews 8 and 9 – showing a better new covenant sanctuary and sacrifice through Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Saviour. With our Gospel Tracts exhausted, we decided to go buy the last box of English booklets and hopefully head out to the Copesville Informal Settlement – as we had been speaking about the wickedness that had beset that area. On our way downtown, we had also sought the Lord where we should go preach. It appeared to be ‘aimless driving’ around this corner, down to where the Sangomas (Witchdoctors) gather with their devilish concoctions and herbs, turned right down a one way, almost turned to go against the traffic (not realising it’s a one-way east), righted the vehicle and after negotiating some heavy traffic we found ourselves back in Church Street passing the Muslim mosque heading out of town, when – here proceeding on Church Street heading towards their temple is a whole gathering of Hindu devotees with incense, smoke and coals, orange flower-like decorations, all filing down the sidewalk to the beating of tambourine-type drums. What a clatter. This was what we were looking for. We headed to the Hindu Temple to distribute Gospel Tracts to warn them of idolatry and point them to Jesus Christ.

On arriving, we made our way to where the Hindu devotees were filing into the temple. So we approached some men sitting at two tables outside the walls of the temple – one had all idols and other paraphernalia on it and the other some fruit. We were checked-out and it was spiritual warfare immediately. I asked what was happening with all the commotion and then asked if God lives in idols. That was all that triggered the vilest filth to pour out of men’s mouths, who told us to &%#^!$* take our Bible and &%#^!$ take our Jesus and &(@^#$% get out of here!!! When challenged that they were supposed to be worshippers and they were cursing so badly they subsided somewhat, but still poured scorn and filth from their filthy hearts. People were telling us to leave. I attempted to read Psalm 115 against the idolatry taking place; the evil and wickedness was prevalent in that place. It was thick!

Lungisa and I ventured across the road, and he raised his voice and preached against the wickedness of idolatry and pointed them to Christ Jesus, but there were mockers who came and engaged us across the road. One Indian man passing by was not even in the temple, but had alcohol on his breath and was inebriated and appeared to be the self-appointed spokesperson for the entire Hindu community and ecumenicalism. He told me that we all worship the same God and that we must just all love everyone. We have heard this lie so many times, but the biggest idolatry of all was when he told me that the Hindus also believe that their father and mother are gods and they take preference even before God the Creator. Blasphemy, he was called to repent for he is a wicked man to think parents are gods before the Creator God. After this man, there was an elderly Indian man that was in his car that was parked in front of Lungisa listening for a long while, before moving into the side-street and dialoguing with me. The conversation never really was going anywhere, because as he would ask a question, he wouldn’t let me finish an answer when he would be on the next point – which was mocking God’s Word. Lungisa preached on, when this man in the car said I was swearing at him, because I called him to repent of his wicked and evil ways. He parked his car and angered he came sticking his fingers in my face. By this commotion, the small crowd was gathering, from people leaving the temple. I pushed the man’s finger out of my face telling him to get his pagan hand out of my face, when he started resorting to racial slurs against me, calling me: “@#*&^% Yorll white ting. Get out of here with your apartheid!” I can understand that these men uttered such filth by the demonic spirits governing them. At a point, I called Lungisa to join me dusting off our feet and leaving, which we received rapturous applause, but it was then that I noticed Thulani speaking to a young African man, witnessing to him, and him and I also ended up witnessing to another African man drawn to the scene by the commotion, but wanting prayer. We shared the Gospel with him, telling the Indians that we are going nowhere until we have spoken to these that want to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At this point they left us.

Brother Lungisa preached on, until another Hindu priest came out from his home-temple, about 100 metres down the road from the main Hindu Temple, and we engaged him in dialogue. At one point I tried to reason with the man that: “What if I believed your grey fleece top was yellow. Would what I believed to be true, be true?” He then retorted: “What if there were 1000 people who said it was true, then you would start doubting yourself.” I said: “That cannot be true. I wouldn’t doubt myself. So you are saying that would be truth to them?” He then answered with the most incredible answer I have ever heard: “Yes, because majority rules!” “WHAT!!! You’re lying to me! You can’t be serious!” was my response, but laughing he was most serious. I was also shown his idolatry statue to which he and his devotees pray, and I read him Psalm 115 and for a time he listened, but he was in denial of the Truth. There was nothing left for us to do, but he did take a Gospel of Jesus Christ booklet, despite his own protests.

Our Great God gave us a glimpse of the utter debauched and reprobate minds and evil and wicked hearts He has to look upon everyday. What a stench it is! What an abomination! O, how miserable our own sin must be to God our Father! Let us keep this warning foremost in how we live our lives. Our Great God is a strong tower and a place of refuge. He delivered us from evil men, and He is worthy of all praise and worship. Jehovah is Mighty to save.

21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. ~ Jude 21-25

Soli Deo Gloria.
