The Biblical Mandate of Preaching the Excellencies of Christ, Part 1
This is part 1 of a 2-part message preached to the evangelists who attended the “Super Bowl Outreach” this past weekend in Miami, Florida. What a privilege it was to be able to encourage the brethren as they go out to share the Gospel!
Here is an excerpt of the message:
Never forget the words of John 1:37, for these were spoken of John the Baptist, who is perhaps the best open air preacher in the New Testament. “The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.” These words are to are to be the ends of our preaching. We would do well to study the one of whom they were written. Does our proclamation of the Lord Jesus Christ make people want to follow Him, does it make them admire Him above all things because they have heard of His exceeding greatness, or does it just leave them relieved that they don’t have to go to Hell? What did Jesus say? “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Brothers and sisters, never forget that to believe in Him is more than an intellectual assent to the historical events of Jesus’ life. It is to believe in the person of Jesus Christ. His uniqueness, His excellencies…THESE ARE THE SWEET AROMA OF THE GOSPEL TO A SINNER’S SENSES! Sometimes we can be guilty of thoroughly convincing a sinner that he needs a Savior, then presenting a vanilla Jesus. We see no vanilla Jesus presented in the NT! When the apostles preached Jesus, they presented Him in all of His beauty and glory…Jesus in full living color! Jesus in HD!
The Jesus that was preached in the NT was one that had deeply affected the lives of those preaching Him…THEY PREACHED THE CHRIST BECAUSE THEY KNEW THE CHRIST!!!!! They were not just preaching historical facts, they were preaching about a Person! And that makes the Gospel to be Christ-centered. Not only do you need a Savior…BUT YOU NEED THIS SAVIOR!!!

The Biblical Mandate of Preaching the Excellencies of Christ, Part 2
This is part 2 of a 2-part message preached to the evangelists who attended the “Super Bowl Outreach” this past weekend in Miami, Florida.
Here’s an excerpt from the sermon:
…In Acts 8, those who went everywhere “preaching the word” included Philip, who “preached Christ”. To preach the word is to preach Christ! NOTE: We cannot say that we have preached the word unless we can also say that we have preached Christ.
In Acts 8:35 Philip “preached Jesus”. Can we say with Philip that we have “preached Jesus” to the lost if we spend more time in our conversations/preaching talking about them instead of talking about Christ? Could we be guilty of preaching repentance, and leaving our hearers familiar with the baptism of John, without pointing them to a more excellent way…that of Jesus and His Excellent Greatness?
In Acts 9:20, after Paul’s conversion, immediately he “preached the Christ, that He is the Son of God.” NOTE: How does one preach that Jesus is the Son of God if we do not speak of His uniqueness and excellencies?
In Acts 9:22, Paul confounded the Jews, proving “that this Jesus is the Christ.” Is our proclamation of Jesus Christ one that confounds our hearers? Does our proclamation of salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ alone go beyond the logical conclusions that men can attain in the hearing of the Law, to the incredible, even scandalous, truths of imputed righteousness?
